Police given more time to question murder suspect

Detectives have been given more time to question a suspect after the death of a woman in Cheltenham.

Gloucestershire Police said officers were called to a property on Fairfield Road at about 03:30 BST on Saturday to a report that a woman had been seriously injured.

A 66-year-old woman was found dead at the scene and a 77-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detectives have now been given until Monday afternoon to continue questioning him.

Police remain at the address and specialist officers are providing support to the family.

Gloucestershire Police has urged anyone with information which could help with the investigation to make contact.
