The States advertised for a head of on-island transport and travel five time before re-assessing the role

After six attempts Guernsey's States has hired its first head of on-island travel and transport implementation.

The role was initially advertised in early 2023.

After five attempts to recruit a suitable candidate, the job advert was changed by the States.

Director of operations Damon Hackley said "the post holder will play a vital role in maintaining a strong focus on infrastructure delivery."

The States hasn't named the person who has been recruited to the role.

It was initially advertised at between £86,205 and £97,136, but that salary has been reduced as the role was changed.

Mr Hackley said it was the right decision to change the scope of the role after failing to find a candidate last year.

"Having struggled to find the right candidate to undertake the role as it was initially advertised, we adjusted its remit to concentrate on delivering improvements to our transport infrastructure.

“Delivering improvements to our transport infrastructure is a critical enabler for much needed housing development, which in turn supports employers and the economy, while also improving transport choice and affordability."
