Plans to build 84 new homes on a brownfield site have been submitted by developers.

The land on Harlestone Road in Duston, Northampton currently houses a car dealership, a car wash and a derelict warehouse.

A planning document, external sent to West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) proposes four three-storey blocks of flats containing 28 one and two-bedroom apartments, and 56 houses with up to four bedrooms.

However, local people have raised concerns about the strain on existing medical, educational and leisure services, with five formal objections submitted so far.

The development, which would preserve surrounding woodland, would also include 156 parking spaces, a play area and improved road and pedestrian access.

If the project is approved, the old structures will be demolished.

Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, one resident called the development "irresponsible" without additional support for local GP surgeries and dentists.

WNC is expected to decide on the application by the end of December, with public comments open until 4 November.
