A dragon boat festival is set to take place at Albert Pier later.

The first race is due to begin at about 10:00 BST with the final scheduled for 16:00.

Teams of 17 will compete on 40ft (12m) canoe-like dragon boats.

All teams have pledged to raise a minimum of £550 for Jersey Hospice Care, which offers end-of-life care, support for families and bereavement services.

Teams consist of 16 paddlers in pairs facing towards the bow of the boat and one drummer facing towards the paddlers.

Organisers said they were expecting 510 participants and about 200 supporters.

They said: "The money raised helps us keep our vital services going – from the care provided on the In Patient Unit and in the community, to the bereavement services for anyone going through a loss.

"Our services are provided free of charge, and more than half of the money needed is raised through fundraising, including events such as dragon boats."
