Plans for replacement skate park move forward

Plans have been put forward for a £106,000 skate park in Burntwood to replace nearby facilities.
Bosses at Lichfield District Council have given their backing to the scheme for Burntwood Leisure Centre, although it will need formal approval.
They said they were keen to ensure skaters continued to have somewhere safe to participate in the activity.
A skate park situated on Cherry Close, on land leased from Staffordshire County Council, is set to be redeveloped to provide a new health centre.
Lichfield District Council said it planned to use £86,000 from funding it had negotiated with housebuilders, while Burntwood Town Council would provide £20,000 towards the project from money levied on new developments.
Lichfield District Council leader, Doug Pullen, said: “Our aim is to encourage more people to be more active more often and it’s great that we are able to collaborate with Burntwood Town Council in providing a new place for skaters to meet and practice in a safe location.”
The plans will now require approval from full council as well as consent from the authority’s planning committee.
Permission will also be needed from the Coalfield Industry Social Welfare Organisation which owns the land which is leased for the leisure centre.
