A man has been charged with murder after another man was fatally injured in Scarborough.

Police responded to reports of a collision between a man and a white Audi car on Silver Street shortly before 01:45 GMT on Saturday, according to North Yorkshire Police.

James Roberts, 24, from Alne, North Yorkshire, died at the scene of the crash, a force spokesperson said.

Corris Davies, 26, had since been charged with his murder and was due to appear later at York Magistrates' Court, while two other men arrested in connection with the incident had been released on bail, they added.

In a statement, Mr Roberts' family said he was "the most incredible man".

He "viewed life as one big party and never allowed his sparkle to be dulled", they said.

"He had the unique ability to light up every room that he entered. The world feels significantly darker without his presence."

Mr Roberts' family added that he was a "loving son, brother and uncle" who would be "dearly missed".
