Legendary chip shop Major's in Bilston has told customers it will relocate to a new premises under new owners.

The takeaway, famous for its orange chips, said a new brand and location will be revealed next week in a Facebook post, external.

The post reassured customers the staff and food would remain the same.

But it is not yet known if the chippy will remain in Bilston, where it has been based for nearly 50 years.

Major Spencer, who founded the shop on Church Street, died in 2021 and his son Royston Spencer took over.

Leader of Wolverhampton Council Steve Simkins, who grew up in Bilston, said he would be saddened if it meant a move out of the town.

"Major's Chippy has been iconic to Bilston," he said.
