Man, 18, charged with murder of 17-year-old girl

A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder

A man has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old girl and the attempted murder of another woman.

Cameron Cheng, 18, from Newbridge, Caerphilly county, was also charged with possessing a bladed article and will appear at Newport Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Police went to a property in Wheatley Place, in Cefn Fforest, Caerphilly county, at about 07:15 GMT on Thursday after reports two people had been seriously injured.

Lainie Williams, 17, of Cefn Fforest, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 38-year-old woman, who also sustained injuries, has been discharged from hospital.

Gwent Police Assistant Chief Constable Vicki Townsend said: "Though we've reached this significant development in the investigation, our inquiries continue."

The force is appealing for witnesses.
