Children paddleboarding in sea rescued

An inshore lifeboat was launched after two children paddleboarding at Holkham, Norfolk, got into difficulty

Two children who got into difficulty while paddleboarding were rescued by the public and an inshore lifeboat.

Wells RNLI said the children's paddleboard was blown offshore at Holkham beach, Norfolk, and they were struggling to return to shore.

An inshore lifeboat was launched at 14:18 BST and arrived at 14:22, but "in the meantime two members of the public had swum out to the children on the paddleboard and had managed to bring them back to the safety of the beach", the RNLI said.

The lifeboat crew met the family on the beach to check they were unharmed. There have been four deaths in open water in Norfolk this summer, triggering safety warnings from the Royal Life Saving Society.
