A DJ and music producer is attempted to beat the world record for visiting the most record stores in 24 hours.

Paul Richards - known as Ridney - is hoping to beat the current record of 20 visits by calling at record shops between Southampton and Brighton.

Under the rules of the record attempt, he has to purchase a vinyl album and take a picture at each store, as well as traveling by public transport.

Mr Richards said independent record shops "remain the beating heart of British music culture".

The Southampton-based DJ described himself as a "massive vinyl buff".

"I just thought it'd be a really good thing to celebrate record shops, vinyl culture and everything that goes with it," he said.

He is planning to work with a team of eight witnesses to verify his visits to each shop.

With his own collection of more than 3,000 records, he said he wanted to "celebrate the record stores we have and keep them going".

"There's lots of great music I want at the moment, but just don't tell my wife how much I might spend," he added.

During his career, Mr Richards has appeared at Cafe Mambo Ibiza and his music has been been played on BBC Radio, Capital Chill, Kiss FM and ITV's Love Island.
