Lorry crashes into notorious railway bridge

A railway bridge in Leicestershire has been struck by a lorry for the second time in a week.

Leicestershire Police said emergency services were called to the A5 Watling Street in Hinckley at about 09:15 GMT on Friday.

The road was closed in both directions, the force said, adding that nobody was injured in the crash.

It comes days after a lorry last struck the bridge, previously dubbed the "most bashed in Britain", on Sunday.

It is the second time in five days a lorry has struck the bridge on the A5

Motorists faced delays after the road was shut between the Hammonds Way roundabout and the roundabout off the A47 and Coventry Road.

Traffic started moving along the route when the road opened at about 11:16.

Last year, the bridge was hit in October and twice more in November, and was driven into on 88 occasions between 2017 and 2022.
