An investigation has started into claims of fraud against a Bradford support group.

West Yorkshire Police said it had started looking into allegations relating to Helping Hands, which describes itself online as "primarily a food bank".

The organisation, which is based in Bierley and was started during the Covid pandemic, also "covers" white goods, furniture, toiletries, cleaning supplies and baby items, according to its website.

Police have appealed to the public for information but have urged people not to speculate about the investigation on social media.

PC Toni Hinnells said: "I can confirm police are investigating reports of potential fraud but continued commentary in the public domain could jeopardise those enquiries.

"Enquiries into any report of fraud are by their nature complex, but we can advise residents the matter is being thoroughly looked into.

"We do want to hear from people connected with this group who may have information which could assist the investigation."
