The owner of a "deteriorating" Grade-II listed hotel has been sent another enforcement notice, calling for repairs to be carried out.

It is the third enforcement notice relating to the Royal Victoria Hotel in Newport issued by Telford and Wrekin Council since July 2023.

The hotel on St Mary's Street has been closed since 2015 and its owner, Roger Brock, has previously said structural damage meant demolition was his only option.

But he has been in dispute with the council, which said it planned to use compulsory purchase powers to buy it.

The latest notice alleges non-compliance with approved plans and conditions for the conversion of the listed building, which remains covered in scaffolding.

Planning permission to demolish the rear extension of the hotel and convert the listed building into apartments was approved in 2018.

However, the council has since rejected the owner's demolition proposal, saying it would not allow the hotel to be torn down.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
