Man denies trespass and theft from asylum hotel

A man has pleaded not guilty to charges of burglary at a hotel housing asylum seekers and and using threatening behaviour.
Sam Burgess, 32, of Nelson Street, Norwich, appeared before Norwich Magistrates' Court where he was was charged with burglary and trespass after he allegedly entered the Brook Hotel in Barnard Road, Bowthorpe, and stole a bottle of vodka on 9 July.
Mr Burgess also denied using threatening, abusive, insulting words and behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence against four men.
He was given bail and is expected to appear before Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on 20 April 2026.
The terms of his bail forbids Mr Burgess entering within 100m (328ft) of the Brook Hotel or Breckland Park in Costessey.
