Flats above takeaways backed despite noise worries

The top floors of a town centre building above two fast-food restaurants are set to be turned into flats after planning permission was approved.

Six one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom apartment will be created above Taco Bell and KFC on The Drapery, Northampton.

West Northamptonshire Council planners noted the flats' proximity to the restaurants regarding noise and smell, and the street's prominence in the night-time economy.

A planning condition requires developer Lionacre Properties to mitigate noise levels in the flats before anyone can move in.

Council heritage officers agreed that the proposal would bring back "currently underused spaces", which would benefit the historic building, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
