The two proposed drive-through restaurants would take 152 parking spaces from the site

A shopping area could end up with double the current number of drive-through restaurants under new plans.

Under the proposals, Arena shopping park in Coventry would gain Popeyes and Five Guys outlets, in place of some existing car parking.

152 spaces would be lost, but plans submitted to Coventry City Council state the car park has spare capacity, and losing the bays would not create "unacceptable" parking pressure.

The outlets would also create about 80 part-time jobs.

The site, near Coventry Arena, already has Starbucks and Burger King sites near its main shopping terrace.

The proposed new units would see the car park entrance moved, and the layout of its main access road changed.

Coventry City Council is yet to make a decision on the plans.
