Pollution in River Teme under investigation

The incident has been caused by agricultural waste, the Environment Agency said

A pollution incident is being investigated in the River Teme in Shropshire.

The Environment Agency (EA) said it was looking into the matter close to Bromfield, near Ludlow, on a tributary of the river.

The pollution is near Ludlow's designated bathing site which stretches from the Linney boating pontoon to the Ludlow Mill beach.

The cause has been identified as "agricultural waste" and the regulator told the BBC it was working to find the source and stop any more pollution.

The EA said its staff found the pollution as they were carrying out regular testing of the water between May and September in the Teme.

On 8 September, much of Shropshire saw flash flooding after its second wettest day on record.
