Fresh from conquering the darts world, Luke Littler is set to be made a citizen of honour in his hometown.

Having already been named as the 2024 BBC Young Sports Personality of Year, in January the Warrington teenager became the youngest winner of the PDC World Darts Championship.

At a special meeting at Parr Hall on Monday, Warrington Borough Council will be expected to formally recognise and reward the now 18-year-old's achievements.

Littler has been credited with creating a surge in interest in darts and has both helped raise more than £1m for Prostate Cancer UK and supported the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Littler, who was born in Warrington and moved back to the town when he was six years old, attended Padgate Academy.

He has won 11 senior PDC titles and is the reigning Premier League, Grand Slam, and Word Series Finals champion.

Warrington Council's nomination statement detailed Littler's career to date, from when he first picked up a dart at 18 months old to how he joined the St Helens Darts Academy as an eight-year-old.

When he was only 16 he reached the 2024 PDC World Championship final and earned a spot in the 2024 Premier League.

In January, less than a month before celebrating his 18th birthday, Littler became his sport's youngest world champion when he comfortably beat three-time winner Michael van Gerwen.

Earlier this month, rugby league team Warrington Wolves announced they would rename their stadium after Littler for Friday's opening home game of the Super League season.
