The club lost its licence in January over concerns about underage drinking

A planned appeal against the revocation of a nightclub’s licence has been withdrawn.

Truth nightclub, in Carlisle's English Gate Plaza, lost its licence over underage drinking concerns.

A hearing into the removal was due to take place last Thursday, but a spokeswoman for Cumbria Police confirmed the appeal had been withdrawn.

She added that the revocation remained and a licence for a new venue Alien had been granted.

Cumberland Council’s licensing sub-committee revoked the licence of Truth nightclub in January also because of concerns over public safety.

Councillors heard that a 16-year-old girl found "tottering" around in an intoxicated condition had been drinking at the venue.

The police force had objected to the licence transfer from former company Truth Enterprises to the new company B&2.

In February councillors upheld the objection because officers felt it was a rebranding exercise, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
