Plans to knock down a bus depot in Mansfield and build a replacement facility have been approved.

Applicant Stagecoach Services Ltd said it needed to redevelop and modernise the existing site off Sutton Road to support the transition of its fleet from diesel to electric buses.

The plans include the demolition of the existing depot and the erection of a new garage, workshop, offices, washing facility and electric charging points.

Mansfield District Council's planning committee approved the application during a meeting on Monday.

Stagecoach said the current site would replace a series of "dated and visually disjointed buildings" with a "modern, coherent, and well-designed facility".

The new site will be home to new fleet of 24 electric buses.

Planning officer Craig Miles said: "This represents a significant investment in essential public transport infrastructure, supports local employment, and aligns with wider local and national objectives to promote sustainable transport and improve air quality."
