Free bike checks and security marking on offer
- Published
Free bike checks and secure cycle marking will be available in Hull city centre.
Discounted D-locks will also be on sale during an event in Queen Victoria Square from 11:00 to 15:00 BST on Thursday.
It is being staged as part of TravelWise Week, which aims to encourage cycling, walking and other sustainable transport choices.
Hull City Council is supporting the event, which will offer people a chance to try riding an e-bike or to take part in rides led by instructors from British Cycling.
On Friday, the focus will shift to public transport, when representatives from bus and train operators, including Stagecoach, East Yorkshire, TransPennine Express and Northern, will be in Queen Victoria Square to offer information about timetables, fares and special offers.
Other intiatives during TravelWise Week will include guided walks by Hull Maritime on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and a cycle-marking event at The Bike Hub, at the University of Hull, on Tuesday from 11:00 to 14:00.
'Simple' choices
TravelWise Week is organised by Modeshift, a sustainable travel organisation, and runs until Sunday.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, who holds cabinet responsibility for transport, said: “Making active and sustainable travel choices doesn’t mean changing everything you do. It can be as simple as walking to the shops instead of using the car, cycling to work one day a week, or using the bus or train for leisure on a weekend.”
Places on the instructor-led cycle rides must be booked in advance. Visit the Travel Hull website, external for more information.
