A woman has succeeded in swimming around Guernsey after recovering from a serious leg injury she suffered in a previous challenge.

Rosie Williams was swimming to Sark a couple of years ago when her leg got caught on a boat engine.

After recovering from the injury, she set her sights on circumnavigating the 25 miles (40km) around the island, completing the challenge in 10 hours and 30 minutes.

She said: "I knew I was really anxious around boats so I really wanted to challenge that."

Ms Williams, a mental health worker, swam in an anti-clockwise direction beginning and ending at Jerbourg.

Reflecting on how she overcame her anxiety, she said: "I think it's really important to talk about stuff.

"Professionals play a really big role, as well as having supportive friends and family."
