A kitchen fire at a student halls of residence was caused by flammable clutter left on top of a hob, the fire service has said.

Crews were called to the accommodation block on Glen Eyre Road in Southampton on Tuesday shortly before 18:00 BST.

They arrived to find smoke coming from the first-floor kitchen before bringing the blaze under control.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service urged the importance of keeping hobs clear after cooking.
