Consultation on plans to 'revitalise' town gateway

Central Walk in Hucknall is set to be refurbished as part of the project

People living in Hucknall will be asked to have their say on plans to upgrade a gateway to the town centre.
A £600,000 project is being drawn up to "revitalise" the town's Central Walk and Chapel Street by Ashfield District Council.
It will include refurbishing the arcade canopy and ceiling, bird-proofing works, upgrades to shopfronts, lighting and paving, new planting, and public art installations.
The council will launch a week-long public consultation on the plans on 5 September.
'Investing in the future'
The authority said the "poor aesthetics and lighting" of Central Walk, which links Piggins Croft car park to the High Street, and the path through Chapel Street had contributed to anti-social behaviour.
The proposed changes, set to be funded by money from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, will "address these issues head-on" and help create "a vibrant and safe gateway to the town centre", the council added.
Matt Relf, executive lead member for growth, regeneration and local planning, said: "By improving the look and feel of Central Walk and Chapel Street, we're not only investing in infrastructure, but we're also investing in the future of our community and creating a space which improves the experience of visitors and residents of Hucknall."
The consultation will include events at Hucknall Market from 10:00 to 13:00 BST on 5 September, on Hucknall High Street from 13:00 to 16:00 on 9 September, and at The Range in Central Walk from 08:00 to 11:00 on 11 September.
