More time is needed to review comments about plans to build more affordable housing on Guernsey.

The Development & Planning Authority (DPA) asked the public to comment on its Island Development Plan (IDP) Review.

The proposals earmark six new areas of the island for affordable housing and a plan to extend the L’Aumone local centre boundary to include the Castel Hospital site.

A consultation ran until 29 July and the DPA has requested additional time from the planning inspector to carry out further analysis due to "significant and contrasting views raised".

'Careful consideration'

The DPA's deputy Victoria Oliver said: "We’d again like to thank people for taking the time and the effort taken to submit their representations which we’ve read through and taken on board.

"We are listening to you; we’ve heard and recognise the strong concerns raised, especially in relation to the allocation of greenfield sites. Any alternative options now need careful consideration."

The authority will meet next week to consider further the amount of additional time it believes is necessary.
