A former England netball captain says she hopes an event that showcased different sports in Jersey inspires children and families to take up activities.

Serena Kersten helped organise the Sport for Alll, external event at Grainville on Monday.

Eighteen sports clubs from around the island came together to show people about the activities they can do to stay healthy.

Hundreds of people attended throughout the day.

Ms Kersten, who is from the island, captained the England netball team and has 110 caps for the national side.

She said Monday's event was “about removing barriers” and “making sport accessible to all, regardless of age, ability, background or circumstance”.

Ms Kersten added: “Coming and trying new sports were some of my best memories growing and I wanted to give people in the island somewhere to do that where they could fall in love with sport.”

Funding organisation Jersey Sport helped Ms Kersten organise the event, which they hope to to repeat next year.
