A 92-year-old woman who plays golf three times a week is encouraging others to take up the sport.

Margaret Vautier was one of the founders of the Les Mielles Ladies Golf Club in St Ouen's Bay, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary.

She said the ladies club was established before the gentlemen's club and the women "paved the way" for the men to found their own club two years later.

Mrs Vautier encouraged people of all ages and abilities to join the club, which she said was a "very social" one.

Talking about starting the club in 1989, she said: "When we started it was a 12-hole course and it had to be changed for us on a Tuesday morning into a nine hole course, which meant they lent us some of the tees and we went around twice."

She said she was "not a natural player" and people of any ability should consider joining the club.
