Work starts on Monday to remove vegetation from the reservoir wall

A walkway along the wall at St Saviour's Reservoir will be closed from Monday for two months for repair work.

Guernsey Water said work to remove vegetation from the 17.5m (60ft) reservoir would involve a rope team abseiling down it, followed by work on the water side of the wall.

The walkway had to be closed to allow space for the workers' equipment, the utility said.

The remainder of the Millennium Walk around the reservoir would remain open as usual, with visitors advised to park their cars on the Rue Des Choffins side.

"It is an intricate and time-consuming job, critical to ensuring it remains safe, in good condition and serves us for many generations to come," said capital delivery manager Carl Falla.

"We timed this work for the summer because the water levels need to be lower.

"With rainfall in July alone 214% above usual, plus Saturday's deluge, it's fair to say our water storage levels are higher than expected.

"Currently we have stopped filling St Saviour's reservoir so the levels naturally fall before the works commence."
