Up to 80 on-street charging points for electric vehicles are set to be rolled out across Wolverhampton.

The first four units have been installed by City of Wolverhampton Council on Merridale Crescent, Castlecroft Road, St Mark’s Road and Laburnum Street.

Charging points will be installed in 40 locations across the city and will help to give residents greater access to greener methods of travelling, the council said.

Councillor Qaiser Azeem said the authority was committed to reducing carbon emissions and said electric vehicles were a “great way to do this”.

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles previously awarded the council £279,790 to deliver the project.

It is part of a larger scheme that will see up to 315 charging points introduced in about 158 locations across the Black Country.
