A body has been found in a search for a missing man.

Ramaswamy Jayaram, 56, from Ipswich, was reported missing after he left his home at 05:45 BST on Sunday.

Suffolk Police said on Wednesday it was alerted that a body had been found at 09:25 in Braziers Wood, Ipswich.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, the force said it believed it was Mr Jayaram and his next of kin has been informed.

The police added that the death was being treated as unexplained but there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.

Mr Jayaram worked for the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

Caroline Donovan, the chief executive of the trust, said: "My deepest sympathy and condolences go to the family, friends and colleagues of our much loved and respected Dr Ramaswamy Jayaram, known as Dr Jay to his colleagues and friends, at this incredibly sad time."

Police searches previously took place in the vicinity of Ravenswood and Orwell Country Park in the town.

They were assisted by Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue and HM Coastguard.

The family and friends of Mr Jayaram, along with members of the public, had also conducted searches in the area.
