Elderly pedestrian dies after being hit by car

An elderly pedestrian has died after being hit by a car, police have said.

Merseyside Police said the 92-year-old woman was struck by a blue Ford Focus on Canning Street, near to the Catharine Street junction, in Liverpool at about 17:55 GMT on Sunday.

The force said the woman later "sadly passed away from her injuries".

Appealing for witnesses, a police representative said a 33-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
