A 37-year-old man who was tackled to the ground by members of the public after he stabbed someone four times has been jailed for six years.
Ian McInally, of Talbot Avenue, Bristol, admitted to causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and possessing a knife in a public place.
Avon and Somerset Police said the victim, who survived the attack, was found on a city centre road with stab wounds on 28 May.
McInally was disarmed by "brave" members of the public.
Bristol Crown Court heard on 29 July that officers received calls reporting an argument between two men on Bond Street.
McInally had drawn a knife and stabbed the victim four times before he was tackled and disarmed by members of the public, the court was told.
Officer in the case Det Con Carl Spicer, said: "The attack on Tuesday 28 May was stopped by the brave actions of members of the public who threw items at McInally and tackled him to the floor, disarming him and detaining him until police arrived.
"Staff from Bristol Outreach for Homeless and a PCSO acted quickly and utilised a bleed kit and provided first aid to the victim."
The wounded man was taken to Southmead Hospital in a critical condition and remained there for a week before being discharged to recover from his injuries, police added.
McInally was handed a four-and-a-half year sentence for GBH and a 12-month sentence for possession of a bladed article in public.
His actions also activated a suspended sentence for a robbery in August 2023, adding an additional 20-month term to run consecutively.
