A 37-year-old man had been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a stabbing in Bristol city centre.

Ian McInally, of Talbot Avenue, has also been charged with possessing a knife in a public place.

Avon and Somerset Police said a man in his 40s was found with stab wounds in Bond Street at 11:30 BST on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical but stable condition, the force added.

Mr McInally appeared at Bristol Magistrates Court earlier, where the case was sent to Bristol Crown Court.

The next hearing will be at the crown court on 7 July.

The BBC understands a bleed kit was used to help the man who was attacked.
