A main road is closed between Crawley and Brighton following a vehicle fire on a slip road earlier today.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue said they were called to a fire at the Handcross slip road on the A23 southbound at 06:51 BST.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Joint Fire Control mobilised two fire engines – one from Crawley and one from Horsham - to the scene. National Highways are also in attendance.

“All southbound lanes are closed leading to significant delays. Please allow extra time when you travel and avoid the area where possible.”
