M23 West Sussex 15-vehicle crash closes motorway

Police cleared long tailbacks on the M23, south of Gatwick Airport
Multiple casualties are being treated after a crash involving about 15 vehicles closed the M23 in West Sussex.
The motorway was shut in both directions between junctions 10 and 11, Pease Pottage, at about 17:40 GMT.
The ambulance service said it had taken four patients to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
About 30 other casualties were assessed for minor injuries, with medical staff treating as many as possible at the scene.

The crash, at about 17:40 GMT on Friday, closed the M23 where it bypasses Crawley
The crash happened on a section of the M23 around Crawley, just south of Gatwick Airport.
National Highways said it expected to be working into the night to fully clear the northbound carriageway.
The southbound side reopened to traffic earlier.
Drivers trying to get between junctions 10 and 11 northbound were advised to follow a diversion along the A23 and A2011.
