'UK's youngest bus driver' passes test

A teenager is thought to have become the UK's youngest bus driver after passing his test.
Alex, from Selby, qualified just 12 days after his 18th birthday earlier this month after training at South Yorkshire-based City Driver Training.
A self-professed "bus enthusiast", Alex told the Sheffield Star, external he was proud of the achievement after passing his test first time.
Unlike securing a licence to drive a car, prospective bus drivers are unable to qualify until they are at least 18 years old.
Speaking to the paper, Alex said: "My parents are really proud of me because I’m Britain’s youngest bus driver.
"I checked around the country including London and Scotland and it’s not possible to take your test any earlier after turning 18. I guess they want to give people time to sober up.
"I’ve always been a bus enthusiast, I love getting out and about and travelling. I have a car licence, but everyone has that, the bus licence is a better achievement."
Two years ago, Bradford teenager Kraish Symes became the youngest ever bus driver for Yorkshire-based firm Transdev after he too qualified for a licence at the age of 18.
