A 16-year-old boy has been charged with violent disorder as part of investigations into unrest in Stoke-on-Trent and Tamworth earlier this month.

Fifty-five people have so far been arrested and 18 charged since the disorder on 3 and 4 August, Staffordshire Police said.

The unrest across the UK followed fatal stabbings in Southport and, in their wake, false online rumours the suspect was a Muslim.

The boy, from Stoke-on-Trent, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Thursday.
