A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was shot at a car wash.
Durham Police said a vehicle pulled up at Lanchester Hand Car Wash shortly before 19:30 BST on Monday and its passenger opened fire at four men who had arrived there a few minutes earlier. The car then made off.
A man in his 50s was left with pellet injuries to his chest, face, forehead and eye, which were described as "superficial", the force said. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and declined hospital treatment.
Firearms officers were called as part of the investigation. A man in his 20s remains in custody.
The A691 has been closed while crime scene investigators work at the scene.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause," a police spokesperson said.
The force has launched an appeal for information and asked anyone who witnessed the shooting or has dashcam footage to get in touch.
