Firefighters have been tacking a large fire at a building next to the River Thames.

The blaze broke out at the property on the waterfront in Benson, Oxfordshire, off the A4074 at about 04:00 BST.

Seven crews were deployed after the first firefighters to reach the scene found the single-storey building "well alight" and called for further assistance.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire had now been put out and that the flames were stopped from spreading to nearby boats and chalets.

Police shut the A4074 due to the large amount of smoke spreading across the area from the fire. The road has since reopened.

The fire service said firefighters would remain at the site for a large part of the day to dampen down and investigate the cause of the fire.
