Four arrested after Barclays bank covered in paint

Red paint was thrown over two branches of Barclays in Manchester city centre

Four people have been arrested after two city centre banks were covered in red paint and graffiti.

Glass doors were also smashed at the two Barclays branches on Mosley Street and Market Street in Manchester on Friday.

Four people aged between 20 and 37 have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have said.

In a post on X, protest group Palestine Action said its activists were responsible.

Property searched

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Harris said GMP had executed a warrant at an address on Wilbraham Road in Chorlton on Friday evening.

Four people were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage offences and a scene remained in place while officers searched the property, she added.

DCI Harris said: "We understand the concerns incidents of this nature cause amongst our communities, and I want to reassure you that we continue to treat these reports with the utmost severity and sensitivity."

A nearby Bank of New York Mellon site was also daubed with graffiti during the incident.
