Rail delays after fault with train discovered

Rail disruption is expected until the end of the day in Staffordshire and Cheshire, following an issue on a train.

The fault on a train between Crewe and Stafford via Stoke-on-Trent meant fewer London Northwestern Railway trains were able to run between these stations, National Rail said.

Trains going between these stations may be cancelled.

People can use their ticket on CrossCountry between Crewe and Stafford and East Midlands Railway between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent via Alsager at no extra cost.

Rail replacement transport had been operating between Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent via Stone in that direction only until 13:15 BST.

The train fault incident was reported at about 07:45.
