Guernsey's new chief fire officer must be 'strategic'

Guernsey Fire and Rescue is looking for a new Chief Fire Officer

Guernsey's Fire and Rescue Service is looking for a "strategic and influential leader" to be the island's new chief fire officer.

The successful candidate would be paid an annual salary of up to £130,000, according to an online job advert., external

The current post-holder, Jon Le Page is due to retire later this year.

The closing date for applications is Friday 9 August 2024.

'Generous relocation package'

In addition to pay of £125,467-£129,996, the advert says the States of Guernsey offered a "generous relocation package" to successful applicants required to move to the island from outside the Bailiwick.

It said this included:

  • An employment permit that enabled individuals and their immediate families to live and work in Guernsey

  • Initial financial support to move to the island

  • Further assistance adjusting to the local economy and in some cases, additional support with storage expenses

The advert said the new chief fire officer would be responsible for "ensuring the effective, efficient, economic, and safe management of all staff", as well as "being responsible for the daily management of the service".

It added that the postholder might be required to attend meetings with members of the Committee for Home Affairs "on specialist matters regarding the Fire and Rescue Service."
