A 39-year-old man jumped into St Peter Port harbour to evade police after they tried to arrest him for intent to supply controlled drugs.

The incident happened on the town's Albert Pier at about 20:00 BST on Thursday.

The man was rescued by police and checked for injuries before being arrested and taken into custody, police said.

Police said an inquiry was ongoing.
