Plans for 140 homes and a new doctor's surgery on the site of a former quarry in Surrey have been approved by councillors.

Council officers had recommended the plans for the former Godstone quarry, near the A25, were given the go-ahead.

Tandridge District Council's planning committee voted in favour of the proposals for the 6-acre (15-hectare) site.

The application, submitted by Ashill Land Limited, also included a car park for Godstone Parish Council and new open space.

A total of 70 of the homes will be affordable housing.

The application will now be sent to central government for final approval.
