Mr Driscoll faces three counts of sexual assault

Ex-boxing star Mick Driscoll has denied sexually assaulting a woman.

The England Boxing coach and former light-welterweight champion is accused of forcing his way into her hotel room between 6:30 and 7:00 BST one morning in 2019.

The 56-year-old told Lewes Crown Court the woman - who cannot be named for legal reasons – tried to seduce him and was wearing "black silk underwear".

Prosecutor Oliver Dunkin said this was "nonsense" and that he had "made it up".

Mr Driscoll, who faces three counts of sexual assault, had been drinking with the woman the night before, the jury was told.

The prosecutor said that seven and a half hours after they parted Mr Driscoll "barged" his way into the room and was "slobbering all over her face".

The woman denied she was wearing such underwear and described being picked up and thrown on the bed.

She said Mr Driscoll had jumped on top of her, tearing at her clothes.

The woman said she fought him off and while she answered the phone, Mr Driscoll undressed.

"It's a lie about the attack and it's a lie about the phone call," the coach said.

"I'm not sure what happened but she had a bad reaction."

Mr Driscoll, from Portsmouth, said he had never abused his position as a respected boxing coach.

He also denies groping the woman on another occasion the same year.

The one-time Olympic hopeful and award-winning coach oversaw the development of more than 100 national champions.

The trial continues.
