Residents can have their say on proposals to revamp an area of Pocklington.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has unveiled plans to create additional seating in Market Place.

The intention is to pedestrianise the space surrounding the Jubilee Monument, between Deans Lane and St Peter's Square, where there is currently eight parking bays and one motorcycle bay.

The council said results from recent parking audits showed the proposals would have “minimal impact on parking movements and provision”.

Draft designs show vehicle access to businesses and St Peter's Square would be maintained.

There would be "flexibility" for the newly created space to support weekly market and town centre events, the council said.

Councillor Paul West, cabinet member for environment and transport, said : "Please do share with us your opinion on this proposal, how it could be shaped and if you think this would be of benefit to Pocklington.

“The proposal will only proceed if it receives majority support."

The council said its local growth team will visit town centre businesses over the coming weeks.

It will also attend the market on Tuesday 2 April and the Pocklington Town Council's annual meeting on Wednesday 17 April.
