Council to create 50th anniversary time capsule

A Leicestershire council has appealed for people's help to create a time capsule to mark its 50th anniversary.
Melton Borough Council has asked people to contribute pictures of themselves in local places of importance to celebrate its five decades.
The authority plans to create a booklet of selfies as part of the contents of the capsule, which is to be sealed in a ceremony in March.
Melton borough councillor Helen Cliff said: "It will be fantastic to celebrate the people and places who have a positive impact on the place we call home."
The council, which was established on 1 April 1974 as part of a local government reorganisation, said it wanted to work with schools and community groups in the area to create a new "memory archive" for the capsule.
It is to run a photo competition to collect pictures.
A "Millennium Quilt", created 25 years ago to depict the area's character and history, will also be placed in the time capsule.
A replica of the quilt, printed on canvas, will go on display at the council's Parkside headquarters.
