A man who was caught on CCTV throwing bags of rubbish from a moving van has been fined more than £700.

Nicky Ellis, of Albert Terrace, Oakenshaw, was filmed dumping waste along Staithgate Lane, in Bradford, in August 2022.

He initially claimed the bags had accidentally fallen from an unsecured side door of his van, but pleaded guilty to the offence at Bradford Magistrates Court on Friday.

Ellis was fined £727 and ordered to pay a £291 victim surcharge and £658.88 in court costs.

Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s executive member for healthy people and places, said: “[This] case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of illegal waste disposal.

"We urge anyone who witnesses fly-tipping to report it to us as soon as possible.

"We can then investigate, take action to remove it and try to trace those responsible.”
