Channel Islands Air Search helped with the rescue mission off Alderney's coast

A kayaker sparked an emergency services search and rescue operation near Alderney's coast.

Alderney RNLI said it was called out alongside Channel Islands Air Search and a rescue helicopter from Cherbourg at about 10:00 BST on Tuesday after a kayaker got into difficulty.

The air search team said on Facebook, external the kayaker was found and winched on board the helicopter before being transferred to the lifeboat crew.

A spokesperson said the operation had "great coordinated emergency services team work" and praised the outcome as "successful".
