Churches get anti-crime funding for extra security

St Mary Queen of Martyrs Church, on Hull's Bransholme estate, will get CCTV and a security fence

A church that has seen repeated vandalism and other anti-social behaviour is to get money to pay for improved security measures.
St Mary Queen of Martyrs, on Bransholme estate, will get up to up to £14,000 for new fencing and CCTV from Hull City Council's Crime Prevention Fund.
Another church, St Philip's in Bilton Grange, will be getting up to £10,000 to pay for new PVC doors after a break in earlier this year.
The fund was set up in 2022 and awards grants of up to £25,000 to prevent crime and antisocial behaviour.
Other successful applications include £4,354 to buy more equipment for the HullBID Radio Network which allows shops to warn each other and contact CCTV operators and police about crime in the city centre.
Also funded is the Peel Project, which has received a grant of £24,345 towards modifying a building and to buy equipment for a youth centre and community gym at Peel Park near Spring Bank.
Councillor Ted Dolman, portfolio holder for communities and community safety, said: "This administration promised to create a crime prevention fund for local people.
"We did this because people in Hull deserve to live in safe and welcoming neighbourhoods free of antisocial behaviour and crime.
"Whilst it is a small minority of people who engage in activity that can have a negative effect, their behaviour can have wide-reaching consequences.
"The Crime Prevention Fund allows us to work with communities across the city to target problem areas and improve feelings of safety."
